Generally there are about a dozen participants from several different countries, mostly from Asia, attend these sessions under the supervision and guidance of usually three to four hosts on any given evening. Young people, in Australia on working holiday visas, now form the largest proportion of the group. Most of the sessions are focused on newcomers being able to learn more about Melbourne and Australia in general.Testimonials of participants: “I was so lonely until I went to English Corner”. “English Corner helped me understand my work mates”. “I felt more confident in a new country”, “Oh, that’s what that means!” “I felt more prepared to go for a job”. “I didn’t know learning English could be so much fun!”.
